Location: Muscat, Oman Date Posted: 30th July 2009 Salary: GBP 24,000 - 42,000 per annum Purpose of the Job: The purpose of this position is to design, document and deliver specification for the building of a Fibre Optic Network that will have the capacity to provide a full wholesale service high speed network. This design work will allow for future growth of the structure and traffic increases.In addition, the incumbent will ensure preparation of documentation system enabling assets to be identified, used and maintained along with the future system user details.The Architect will design and support the system to enable major users to house their equipment adjacent to the Client network thus enabling connection to be made.Principal Accountabilities - Build and develop design rules for Telecom Unit fibre optic infrastructure and networks utilising the duct system of The Client.- Develop specifications for systems and components required to implement the Client FTTx network including, but necessarily limited to;- Passive network components- Point-to-point fibre equipment- GPON systems and equipment- Network Management systems- Monitoring and control systems- Core network systems (switching, service/application platforms, interconnection etc..)- OSS/BSS systems- Defining and delivering a wholesale fibre service model with Service Level Agreements. The service model may include both passive (dark fibre) and active ("bit stream") style services- Developing specifications and designs for a full service high-speed FTTx network utilising Point-to-point, GPON and other possible network architectures. Startegies and designs will be proven by means of a limited commercial trial of the service- Production of high quality documentation.- Implementation and operation of [a set of] electronic records for recording the external and fibre network assets and customer connectivity.- Design and planning of a number of small 'Points of Presence' where wholesale customers can co-locate equipment for the purpose of interfacing to the fibre network- Compile regular Project Reports and, later, operational reports- Forecasting and managing duct and fibre capacity on the network - Involve in telecoms related tenders and procurement- Technical support to commercial/account management function and technical interface with customers- Understanding of optical fibre GPON, GEPON, point-to-point architectures and the telecommunications equipment and BSS/OSS required delivering advanced, IP based services over these architectures.
