Job Code: SVD/04/001 Primary Purpose of the Job Assists with the management of QPs seismic and petrophysical tape archive systems. Enter data to Oracle-based records management database systems and perform some database administrator tasks. Provide data transcription of seismic tapes and well log tapes to various media (e.g. IBM 3590, 9-track, 3480, 4mm DAT, 8mm Exabyte). Follow defined quality assurance procedures to ensure that the tape copying and transcription operations are performed effectively. Identify problematic tapes and follow defined procedures to preserve data. Perform annual audit of data held on tape media and make backups of the data and system. Knowledge Sills and Experience BS in Earth Science, Geophysics, Information Technology or equivalent. Good experience in geophysical seismic records management or a seismic processing environment. Requires knowledge of seismic tape media, tape drives, UNIX, Oracle database software and records management. Knowledge of SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists) seismic formats (e.g. SEGA, SEGB, SEGC, SEGY) and RODE encapsulation. Ability to identify the format of a seismic tape and to decode and interpret the tape header block information and data block information. Knowledge of navigation and positional information for seismic surveys and associated formats such as UKOOA P1/90. Ability to determine a required record range of seismic acquisition records from shot point range information provided on seismic observer logs. Working knowledge of ESRIs ArcGIS geographic information software. Experience with IBM B11 robotics systems would be an advantage. Ability to run Oracle-based database systems.
